Homeowner FAQs

The following answers common questions homeowners have about using, maintaining and troubleshooting HVAC and electrical systems:
How often should I change my HVAC air filter?
Most homes need a new filter every 60 to 90 days, but homes with pets, allergy sufferers or higher dust levels should change it every 30 to 45 days. A dirty filter restricts airflow, forces the system to work harder, and can shorten its lifespan.
What temperature should I set my thermostat to for the best efficiency?
In Florida's climate, 78 degrees while home and 82 to 85 degrees while away in the summer is a common efficient setting. Each degree closer to the outdoor temperature reduces run time and energy cost. A programmable or smart thermostat makes it easy to automate these adjustments.
Why is one room in my home warmer or cooler than the others?
Uneven temperatures are usually caused by sun exposure, a room's distance from the air handler, closed or blocked vents, or a duct that needs balancing. Try opening vents fully and clearing furniture away from them first. If the difference persists, a technician can balance the airflow to that room.
